Xiaomi Officially Announces The Mi Box Mini Set Top Box Equipped With Quad-Core CPU For 199 Yuan

Xiaomi held its event to show off their first few new products for the 2015 calendar year, and alongside the Mi Note and the Mi Note Pro, Xiaomi also officially announced a new set top box to follow up the Mi Box, called the Mi Box Mini. This tiny little set top box is about a quarter size of the original Mi Box, to put that into perspective it looks about the size of a small, square shaped A/C adapter that you can plug directly into the wall outlet. You can literally fit it in the palm of your hand. Not only is it staggeringly small, but the price is small too coming in at just 199 Yuan, while also being offered in a range of different colors to give the consumer some choice and customizable options.

The Mi Box Mini seems to be a powerful little device for its size as well, packing a Cortex-A7 quad-core CPU clocked at 1.3GHz, with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal flash storage space for storing content. It supports 1080p video resolution, as well as Dolby and DTS Audio. As we stated above it can be plugged directly into a wall socket or the outlet of a surge protector thanks to the built-in power supply. It also comes with an included HDMI cable as well as a Bluetooth remote for controlling and accessing all the content available through the Mi Box Mini.

The Mi Box Mini supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz dual-band WiFi 802.11n connections, so there's less hassle without the need for connection to an ethernet cable. When it comes to set top boxes, this is about as compact as it gets. The only thing that comes close to this size for streaming content devices are the myriad of HDMI dongles like the Chromecast, Fire TV stick and others. It's also inexpensive, as we mentioned above that the Mi Box Mini only costs 199 Yuan, which is roughly around $32. That's not bad and is right about the same price as the Chromecast, but with the added capabilities of the Bluetooth remote and a little more powerful specs on the inside. So far there is no word on when these will be available or if they'll sell outside of China, but keep your eyes on this device if you're looking for a cheap set top box option.
