This has certainly been an exciting year for China as far as mobile technology goes. We all know that China is home to many smartphone manufacturers, many of them offer really non-compelling products, but there are a bunch of those companies that made some really great smartphones this year. China is home Lenovo, Huawei, ZTE, Xiaomi, Meizu, Elephone, Coolpad… as I said, there are many of them. Some of them had a specifically great year this time around and we're here to determine which Chinese smartphone manufacturer did the best job in 2014 and offered the best smartphone around, in our opinion at the very least. So, let's see.
Winner – Meizu MX4
Meizu is one of those companies which had a great year. The company has released 2 flagship devices in just two and a half months. Meizu MX4 was announced back in September and surprised many people, not only by its quality, but price as well. This handset was available starting at 1,799 Yuan ($289) at launch and offered great specifications for the price, not to mention the premium build this device offers as well. Meizu MX4 features a 5.36-inch 1920 x 1152 display along with 2GB of RAM and is powered by MediaTek's extremely capable MT6595 octa-core chip which makes this device a great performer. 20.7-megapixel camera by Sony is also included here and offers some compelling image and video-taking capabilities. Some of you might disagree with this choice considering that MX4 Pro is a better-specced device on paper, but this device is definitely the best smartphone of the year in our book.
Runner Up – Xiaomi Mi4
Xiaomi is currently the number one smartphone manufacturer in China, by far. This company released a bunch of great handsets this year, like the mid-range Redmi 1S and Redmi Note handsets, but Xiaomi's flagship Mi4 handset definitely took the spotlight in 2014. Xiaomi Mi4 is a close second to Meizu MX4 here, it really is. Both of these handsets are the best China can offer right now and offer great performance, great build and unbelievable price points. Xiaomi Mi4 sports a 5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display, 3GB of RAM and is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 801 quad-core chip, which cuts through everything you throw at it. 13-megapixel camera is available at the back of this device and offers some decent performance. Much like the Meizu MX4, this handset offers a premium build as well and won't disappoint you in that department either.
