2014 saw the launch of Android Wear, and Google’s official entry into the smartwatch arena, and while the G Watch and Gear Live weren’t great first offerings, watches like the Moto 360 and G Watch R are a sight to behold. Of course, the whole point of bringing Android to our wrists is the ability to offer apps and similar services as our phones do, without the need to bring out our beloved smartphones all the time. These are our best picks of Android Wear apps for 2014, and they should definitely make a difference to your overall experience on your wrist-mounted computer.
Winner – Wear Mini Launcher
Without doubt, this is one of the most useful apps for Android Wear. Why? Well, for one thing we don’t always want to be seen speaking into our watch to open an app like Keep for a shopping list or something similar and Mini Launcher makes it super-easy to launch apps from your watch. For another, this makes it easy to see how much battery we have left on our smartwatch as well as our phone, and even lets us toggle things like WiFi on or off without touching our phone. This makes it easier than ever to launch one of the many apps you’ll no doubt stumble across and makes using your Android Wear watch so much easier.
Runner Up – Facer
While Android Wear watches are definitely useful, it’s important we have a good-looking watch face, too. Facer is the app that not only allows you to create your own watch face, but also to build up a collection of faces developed by others on your phone, ready to swap whenever you want. It’s easy to create new faces, and with websites like facerepo you can come across some truly brilliant watch faces.
