The Rufus Cuff Receives Improved Design, More RAM As Part Of Extended Indiegogo Campaign

Some time ago we reported a couple stories about the Rufus Cuff, a larger wrist worn wearable device that promises to push the boundaries between smartwatches and a full size smartphone from just a few years ago. The Rufus Cuff may be better described as a wrist communicator, but it performs and is worn just like a smartwatch, it just does much more than any traditional smartwatch on the market. The team at Rufus Labs has been hard at work these past months since we last discussed their awesome product, and they have just announced today that they are back for another round on indiegogo after a successful crowd funding campaign as part of their Forever Funding pilot program.

Right now you can place your pre-orders for the Rufus Cuff through the indiegogo website as well as directly through Rufus Labs. Plenty of pre-orders have already been placed reaching a total of $370,000+ from the original campaign at a price of $279 for the pre-order piece, which has allowed Rufus Labs to further development and improve upon the original design and features. The new Rufus Cuff is evolved past what we saw when the campaign started, now including two mics for better noise cancellation and call quality. It also now features two front facing alert LED's for a brighter flashlight. It doesn't stop there as Rufus Labs has also improved the GPS antenna to provide more accuracy for location tracking, and instead of 512MB of RAM like originally planned, they have doubled it bringing the RAM in the Rufus Cuff up to 1GB.

The usability is great and all, but the functionality of a wearable like the Rufus Cuff is only as powerful as it is comfortable and secure. It's a wearable after all, right? So as consumers interested in wearables we'd want to ensure that they fit nicely and securely. That's why Rufus Labs has redesigned the clasp on the Rufus Cuff, giving it a more refined look and feel with a 3-point-of-contact clasp for an enhanced secure fit to the wrist. The improvements made to the exterior design also make it easier to customize the band and the links to make things more personal.

All around the Rufus Cuff seems to have gotten some pretty great little improvements. Now that the indiegogo campaign is back in action, as we stated above pre-orders can once again be placed for $279 through the indiegogo website. When users place an order for the Rufus Cuff here they get extra perks like free bands and stretch goals. They are the same price as orders placed at but as an incentive for contributing now as opposed to placing a reserve order from the Rufus Labs website, consumers can partake in all the free stuff and stretch goals with the indiegogo campaign. Indiegogo orders are also special edition units making them unique, and who doesn't love that? Orders through Rufus Labs website are set at a prices of $279-$389 and will remain at that price up until December 1st when they are planned to raise as Rufus Labs begins to move closer to the planned launch for the retail launch and shipment of units, which they expect to be in Q1 of 2015. Rufus Labs is committed and focused on bringing their fans as great of a product as they can, but they also have a commitment to giving back, which is why 25% of the proceeds on charity models through the Rufus Labs website as well as 5% on regular model Rufus Cuffs(and any products in the future)are donated to charitable organizations for various things including AIDS research, equality, and Cancer research.
