TELUS Launches Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 LTE Tablet

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 was announced early this year and released along with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 in mid-June – however, the LTE models were nowhere to be found in Canada.  In the early part of September the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 LTE tablet was offered up on Rogers, Bell and TELUS – and now TELUS is adding the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 LTE to its network as well…finally, both sizes with LTE are now available in Canada.  TELUS is asking for $100 down and $20 per month on a two-year term under its Easy Tablet program.  You can also purchase the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 LTE for $580 outright…and it is only available in the Titanium Bronze color.

Tablets are very quickly taking over as replacements for laptops or notebooks and nobody is more enthusiastic about selling tablets than Samsung.  They have tablets in their Galaxy Note series with an S-Pen (stylus) for drawing and manipulating images on the display and also their new Tab S series without the S-Pen.  What is great about this newer Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and Galaxy Tab S 10.5 series is that Samsung is able to get away from the LCD display and use its beloved Super AMOLED displays – the first ones to do so in years.

The LCD display cannot emit light itself and must rely on a separate backlighting panel, whereas the AMOLED design uses self-emitting diodes and controllable pixels for a much faster reaction speed and no residential lighting effects.  This allows a much deeper contrast, a wider viewing angle and the colors pop-out at you – the contrast ratio of a LCD is 1,000:1, but on an AMOLED display it jumps all the way to 100,000:1!

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 has a WQXGA display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 giving you a clear and concise display even when reading finer print.  The processor is Samsung's own Exynos 5 Octa-core with four cores clocked at 1.9GHz and four cores clocked at 1.3GHz.  It has 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot to add up to an additional 128GB of storage.  The main camera is 8MP with flash and the front-facing camera (FFC) is 2.1MP.  It is running Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box and has both Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and LTE connectivity.
