Last couple of quarters didn’t exactly go all too well for Samsung. The company has experienced profit drops and significant issues when it comes to selling its devices. This Korean giant had to deal with a 50% sales drop in China and they sold 40% less Galaxy S5 handsets than they hoped for, in the first three months of its sales that is. Even Samsung’s head of mobile had to deal with a salary cut, a significant one, J.K. Shin’s salary actually got cut by over 50% due to recent problems in the company and he might get replaced soon. All of this doesn’t sound all that good for the biggest smartphone manufacturer in the world, but Samsung is still leading the pack on the top of the charts and all they have to do is change things around in order to stop profit drops, though that’s easier said than done I guess, we’ll see.
The fact that the company is dealing with all sorts of problems doesn’t mean they can stop producing handsets, now does it? Samsung has released Galaxy A3 and A5 handsets at the end of October and it seems they’re becoming available for consumers, at least the A5 model. Galaxy A5 was listed on Samsung’s official website in China earlier this month and now the smartphone is available for purchase. Samsung is offering this device for 2,599 Yuan ($420), which is actually a significant amount of money. Reports have been touting this handset, as well as the A3, as Samsung’s affordable handset offerings, this is everything but affordable. I hope Samsung has something else up its sleeve because there’s no way they will be able to compete with the likes of Xiaomi and Meizu in China with this kind of handset at this price point, that’s just my opinion though, what do you think? Either way, Samsung Galaxy A5 is going to launch in other regions soon, alongside the smaller, Galaxy A3.
Galaxy A5 features a 5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) Super AMOLED display along with 2GB of RAM for you multitasking needs and 16GB of internal storage (expandable via MicroSD card up to 64GB). Galaxy A5 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410, a 64-bit quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz. though. On the back of the device, you’ll find a 13-megapixel camera and an LED flash while there’s a 5-megapixel snapper on the front of the device. 2,300mAh battery comes with this device and it’s sealed in. Android 4.4 KitKat comes pre-installed on this handset on top of which you’ll find Samsung’s custom UI, of course. This smartphone measures 139.3 x 69.7 x 6.7mm and weighs 123 grams.
