Ordered your Nexus 6 yet? Good good. Well, If you have ordered it from AT&T then you may very well be in for more than you bargained for. It seems there is a (good) possibility your brand new (highly expensive) Nexus 6 is fully customized. By customized, I am referring to the back of the device where it seems you might have a familiar globe. Yes, it seems the AT&T Nexus 6 is coming with some highly sought after AT&T branding on the back. Their familiar globe icon is being quite proudly displayed on the product images on the AT&T Business Centre website. Now, of course, there is no way to know for sure if the actual Nexus 6 will come with this exclusive back. It is possible that this is just an artist’s impression of the device and the company taking the opportunity to get some extra online branding in there. However, the other daunting possibility is that your device will come with it.
Its no secret that Google have been cozying up to the carriers with the launch of the Nexus 6. We have already seen the device out-of-stock before it became in-stock and this was supposedly due to the carriers buying them up. So, it won’t come as much of a surprise to learn that Google have not only sold all the Nexus phones to the carriers, but also sold the devices soul too. It wouldn’t be the first time, would it? Back in 2011 the Galaxy Nexus also sold its identity to Verizon, allowing their branding all over the back. You might have thought by now that Google had stepped away from all that. However as we have learned this year with the Nexus price, availability and carrier preference, nothing is out-of-bounds.
Of course, if you are an AT&T lover then this is great news for you. As well as paying top dollar for the Nexus 6, you are also getting some cool AT&T branding thrown in for free. Not to mention that being on AT&T you can also look forward to about 10GB of AT&T bloatware. Not a bad deal considering. So what do you think of the possibility of the Nexus 6 coming carrier branded? Looking forward to showing off your new Google Nexus…by Motorola…branded by AT&T? Not really that bothered about carrier branding? Let us know.
