It wasn't long ago that the Gionee boasted the slimmest phone ever with the release of the Gionee Elife S5.5. The release of the Gionee Elife S5.1 is now the slimmest phone made by the company and has just been launched in India for Rs. 18999, which is $306.95 USD. Unfortunately, Gionee lost the title of slimmest phone ever to Oppo with the release of the Oppo R5 at a slim 4.85mm. However, with a 5.1mm waist line and a magnesium alloy frame, the Gionee Elife S5.1 compares pretty well to the other popular smartphones out there. The iPhone 6 is 6.9mm, 8.1mm for the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the OnePlus One is a hefty 8.9mm thick!
Regardless of the fact that Gionee Elife S5.1 lost its title as the slimmest smartphone on the market, it has some pretty awesome features. This little beauty has a 4.8 inch (1280 x 720 pixels) AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The back cover is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Powered by a 1.7 GHz Octa-core Media Tek MT6592 processor, the screen to body ratio is 74 percent with a narrow frame of only 1.8mm.
Sporting an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 5-megapizel front-facing camera with 88 degree wide-angle lens, the Gionee Elife S5.5 runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor on Android 4.4 with Amigo 2.0 UI on top. In addition to the great cameras, the device has DTS surround sound support, 1GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Available in India in white, blue, black and pink, the smartphone will be on sale in the first week of December throughout the country.
