China has been a synonym for poorly-built cheap devices and copycats for a long time now. That is changing thanks to certain manufacturers which do a really good job making their devices and yet manage to offer them at really competitive prices, such as Xiaomi and Meizu. There’s one more manufacturer which surprised us as of late named UMi. This is not exactly a well known company, at least not outside of China, but they managed to awe us the first time we heard about their upcoming UMi Zero device.
Company has unveiled the device and it is a real beauty, UMi really did pay attention to detail when they were designing this thing. UMi Zero features a 5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) Super AMOLED display, which is a rarity for non-Samsung smartphones, if you like strong contract on your screens you might want to read on, the device really has lots to offer. You’ll find two sheets of Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 on this device, one is located at the front and the other one on the back of this device. UMi Zero also sports a metal frame, which only makes it look and feel more premium. UMi measures 137.4 x 66.3 x 6.4mm, it is thinner than the iPhone 6, hopefully it doesn’t have the same bending issues as Apple’s product. This handset is powered by MediaTek’s MT6592T, a true octa-core processor, it features eight 2GHz Cortex-A7 cores. Along with this processor you get a 700MHz Mali-450 GPU which should take care of graphics rendering. The device comes with 2GB of RAM and multiple storage models, 16GB being the cheapest. 13-megapixel camera is located at the back of the device and it has a super-wide f/1.8 lens (Sony IMX214), this camera is flanked by a dual LED flash. On the front of the device, you can find an 8-megapixel front-facing snapped which is also sporting Sony’s sensor. Android 4.4 KitKat comes pre-installed on this device and a 2400mAh battery is also a part of this package, while the device offers fast charging capability for it. UMi Zero’s weird case leaked recently as well, you can check out that article by clicking this link.
UMi Zero will cost you $299.99 (16GB model), at least officially, Phone Arena says that some re-sellers offer it for as low as $229, though these re-sellers are still at a pre-order phase, so the prices may go up once the pre-order period is over. The device is already featured on UMi’s official website, though at the time of writing this article it wasn’t available to order, despite the “Buy Now” button being there.
