It seems everyone is running around with a smartwatch these days. They really have become big business over the last couple of months and seem to be evolving at a much faster rate than other technologies. The first proper 2014 wearables only came out in the summer and we have just entered autumn and already the next generation of smartwatches are hitting the market. The most notable feature of the newer evolved watches is there tendency to being round. Round certainly seems to be what people are interested in and OEMs are jumping on board quickly. Until now it is undoubtedly the Moto 360 by Motorola that has been the most popular smartwatch. However, that might be set to change with the release of LG’s second watch offering, the ‘LG G Watch R’. In contrast to its predecessor the LG G Watch, this one is much more watch-like with a sporty and modern round face and as such has started to build up a good degree of attention and anticipation.
The device has already been released in LG’s home turf, South Korea on October 14th and is currently available for pre-order in the UK. If you were waiting on this device then we can now confirm LG have announced details of the global roll-out. According to the announcement the LG G Watch R will be available to purchase at retail stores throughout Europe from the start of November. Countries listed as part of the European launch include the UK, France, Italy and Spain. The announcement also notes that further launches will occur for North America, Asia and other territories in the weeks following the European launch. For those looking to purchase via Google Play the LG announcement advises customers from “select markets” will be able to purchase through Play in the coming weeks.
If you need a quick reminder of what is on offer than the LG G Watch R comes with 1.3-inch circular P-OLED display (320 x 320 resolution). Inside, the watch is loaded with 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage and powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor (clocks at 1.2GHz). Other features include dust and water resistant (up to 30 minutes and a depth of 1 meter), powered by a 410mAh battery and running on Android Wear.
