AH Smartwatch Weekly: Spruce Up Your Android Wear Watch with Facer

With the Moto 360 now available, and many users more than likely getting a little fed up of the included watch face themes, and this is is where Facer comes in. If you've been jealous of your Pebble-wearing friends and their ability to create their own exciting watch faces, you can do the same on Android Wear, thanks to the work of XDA member 'fodawim' and his creation, Facer. The app is essentially the Zooper of watch faces and it gives you the platform to create your own ideal watch face, or you know, keep on making watch faces until you've found something you're happy with, to then create another one.

Facer allows you to put together whatever background image you want with text from all sorts of different fonts in different sizes and so on. It's pretty involved, but it's not too difficult to get to grips with if you just stick with it. There are a number of "featured watchfaces" available for you to download and tinker with. One of them, Paper, really caught my eye (it was the font I liked) and so I moved everything up a little bit in the editor so that the cards that show on my dimmed display, to make controlling music easier, won't get in the way of my nice watch face. If I wanted to - and I probably will - I could go a lot further and change the background, change the layout and more. For now though, I'm happy with Paper as it is. When I have a little more time I think I'll create a watch face of my own and the beauty of Facer is that you're not on your own.

While Facer is a little buggy, it's still in active development and there's nothing that really breaks the experience completely, but it's always worth filing a bug report or reaching out so that something can be fixed. I've included some screenshots in the gallery below so you can see Facer in action.

There's a big community over on Reddit, where the developer of Facer is quite active as well, over at reddit.com/r/facer and there's a lot of sharing concerning Facer happening on Google+ as well. It's great to be able to create something that works really well for you and then share it with others. Not only does Facer allow you to create what you want, it also encourages you to share these ideas and creations with others, making it an application that you'll only learn to love even more after spending time with it.
