Houston Rockets, an NBA team, recently visited ZTE's R&D center in China. During the visit, Houston Rockets' CEO Tad Brown held a meeting with ZTE's leadership in China and one of Rockets' biggest stars, point guard Patrick Beverley took some photos with ZTE workers in said center. ZTE and Houston Rockets announced that the partnership between the a Chinese smartphone manufacturer and an NBA team will continue, along with that they implied that ZTE will make a customized version smartphone for this basketball team.
Latest information claims that the device in question will be a customized version of ZTE Redbull V5 smartphone. ZTE Redbull V5 has launched in China back in April and it comes in two variants actually. Mid-range variant is sporting a 5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display along with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage (expandable via MicroSD card up to 32GB). The device is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz which comes with an Adreno 305 GPU. 13-megapixel camera is located at the back of the device while there's also a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter included here. 2400mAh battery is also a part of the package and the device comes with Android 4.3 JellyBean pre-installed with ZTE's UI on top of it. 139 x 71 x 8.9mm are its dimensions and it weighs 165 grams. The high(er)-end variant comes with the same display but it's sporting a Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage.
The latest information claims ZTE will make a customized version of this device and stick NBA branding on it. We don't know how accurate this information is, so take it with a pinch of salt, as always. Perhaps ZTE plans to create a completely new device which will carry the "V5" branding, but will totally differentiate from the device(s) mentioned above. On the other hand, they could just take an existing device and stick an NBA branding on it. In any case, ZTE has said recently that the big event is coming while not mentioning what's it all about. Rumors say the event will take place in October when this device will most probably see the light of day along with some other possible ZTE products, we really don't know what to expect. In any case, stay tuned, we'll let you know when we get more information.
