Back in August, we reported that the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active would be making its way to TELUS in September - well that day is here. You can now purchase the S5 Active on TELUS' website for $250 on a two-year term or $750 off-term, or outright in only the grey color. Designed for the active lifestyle, it offers complete dust-proofing and water-resistance with a rugged design that can take stresses of outdoor activities, while still maintaining all of the high-specs found in the original Galaxy S5. So take it camping, hiking, bike riding, fishing, rock climbing or to the job sight and the Galaxy S5 Active can take the punishment.
The Galaxy S5 Active is not only IP67 certified to fight dust and water - 1 meter for 30 minutes - but also holds a MIL 810G military certification to stand up to salt, dust, humidity, rain, vibration, solar radiation and shock resistant. It also helps with safety assistance as well with weather alerts, emergency low power mode and distress capabilities. The rubber "bumpers" around the device really stand up to drops and mishaps and the physical buttons on the front are ruggedly built, but have a nice 'clicky-feel' to them. The back looks like it is screwed on, however, the screws are cosmetic only so make sure that you snap the back in place to keep the water resistance intact. There is an additional key you can press called the "Active Key" that brings up the Activity Zone - and a long press on it will bring up the camera. The Activity Zone has quick access to features an outdoorsperson would want - Barometer, Compass, Flashlight and a shortcut to S-Health, all on one screen.
The basic specs include a 5.1-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Processing power is provided by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor clocked at 2.5GHz. It comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage that is expandable via a microSD card of up to 128GB...plenty of room to store those beautiful pictures and videos of your outdoor experiences. To take those gorgeous landscape pictures is a new 16MP main camera with auto focus and LED flash, as well as a 2MP front-facing camera (FFC) for video chatting or a selfie. It also comes with a Heart Rate Monitor, but lacks the fingerprint scanner because the home button is missing.
