Expedia.com, one of the world's largest full-service online travel sites, released an all-new app for Android tablets. This is not your usual search app for travelers - the new search tool gives consumers the ability to shop for BOTH hotels and flights on one screen...simply by entering the destination. Expedia also designed this specifically to take advantage of the tablet format...PhoCusWright data shows that about 40-percent of the people use a tablet when searching for a trip destination. With Expedia's new app, it will make that experience easier and great looking at the same time - see the screenshots and video below to see what we are talking about.
Expedia did many studies to determine what users were looking for in a travel app and this is what they discovered: Travelers were frustrated with tablet apps that forced them to pick a hotel and flight separately - they wanted to see one price for what their hotel and flight were going to cost - they want the ability to use sorting options and filters - studies show that tablet users use their device as an entertainment tool as well as they lounge on their couch or recliner, sometimes multitasking as they watch TV. Dara Khosrowshahi, President of Expedia Worldwide and CEO of Expedia, Inc. said:
"The problem is pretty basic: tablet apps to date haven't actually been designed for browsing on a tablet. Travelers expect an easy, convenient way to explore potential travel destinations and browse flight and hotel details and they expect to be able to do it in a way that feels right for them when they're on their tablet. They deserve this experience without sacrificing the in-depth industry knowledge and personalized insights our powerful Expedia search engines provide."
To meet the needs of travelers, Expedia optimized their app for mobile exploration and browsing by including a few unique features. They designed a "Single Search Box" - when the customer enters a city, landmark or airport code, the app will bring up hotels and flights relevant to your query and no specific dates are needed at that time. Secondly, they did the "First-Ever Combined Hotel & Flight Travel Search" - this allows you to search hotels first or flights first. "Collections" is another feature that allows customers the opportunity to explore vacation destinations that they might not have thought about...catered to various regions or sites. Lastly, Expedia has included "Integrated Trip Planning, Booking & Data...Shared Across Devices" - Scratchpad was introduced earlier this year and keeps track of trips that you researched so that you can go back to them, no matter what device you sign into. Pick up the APP HERE and give it a test drive and then jump on our Google+ Page and let us know how you like the new app...as always, we would love to hear from you.
