2K Announces NHL 2K for Android Mobile, Due This Fall

With Hockey Season about ready to begin, 2K Sports is bringing back its NHL 2K game, however, not for console play, but as a "premium" mobile game for your iOS or Android device.  The title will be named simply NHL 2K and as a premium game it will fetch a premium price of $7.99 and should be available "this Fall," according to their press release.  It was co-developed by 2K's Visual Concepts - that brought you the NBA 2K series - and Chinese game developer, Virtuous Games.

According to 2K, NFL fans and gaming enthusiasts will be treated to "NHL 2K's enhanced graphics and compelling new features."  These will include a new immersive My Career mode, a fast-paced, three-on-three competitive Mini-Rink game, a first-ever multiplayer option that will allow fans to play in take-your-turn type shootouts against their friends.  2K will continually update and expand their roster, allowing users to change their rosters with new talent on your way to competing in the Stanley Cup Championship.  You will also get the Classic game modes, which will include the NHL Winter Classic and Free Skate and Shootout.  This premium game will include MFi Controller compatibility and NHL GameCenter LIVE connectivity for a great user experience.

The NHL 2K series was released for consoles and PCs for years alongside its main competitor - EA Sports NHL.  For some reason, 2K withdrew its NHL 2K for 2011, 2012 and 2013, but is now resurrecting it for its mobile debut.  It will be very interesting to see how this most popular game will translate to the mobile world, however, for $7.99, I am thinking it will be pretty spectacular.  Hopefully, 2K will release it early enough in the Fall as hockey season is about to begin...they have certainly had long enough to work on the design.

NHL 2K was having a rough go of it up against EA Sports NHL series, which probably caused 2K to withdraw their game from the market.  However, coming back with it on the mobile-only platform is a brilliant marketing move as EA Sports has nothing to compete against the 2K NHL.  If 2K NHL can get a foothold in the mobile market on the two major platforms, iOS and Android, it would certainly give them a great advantage. Please give us a holler on our Google+ Page and let us know if you would welcome the 2K NHL game onto your smartphone or tablet...as always, we would love to hear from you.
