Bell and Virgin Mobile gave us a surprise today by starting selling the ZTE Grand X a little later than the original announced date of July 29 - but better late than never. China's ZTE continues to add their first smartphone within the Canadian borders, joining fellow Huawei and Alcatel OneTouch as China continues to challenge Samsung, LG and Sony for your Canadian dollar. It will sell for an outright price of $149.95 or on a two-year agreement for $0. It is not a high-end device by any stretch of the imagination, but it has decent specs for the price. The ZTE Grand X should attract customers that are looking for a new device but just cannot swing purchasing a Galaxy S5, HTC One M8 or the new LG G3.
The Grand X comes with a 5-inch HD Gorilla Glass Display with a resolution of 1280 x 720. The processor is a quad-core model clocked at 1.2GHz and comes with 1GB or RAM and only 1.3GB of internal memory...this would definitely necessitate using the microSD card slot and adding up to 32GB of storage, otherwise there would be no room for music or pictures. For photographs, there is a 5MP main camera with autofocus and LED flash, as well as a 1MP front-facing camera for video chats or a selfie. It comes with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and a 2400mAh battery for power. It comes with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS and HSPA up to 21Mbps connectivity. There is a built-in Music Player, Alarm Clock, Calendar, Calculator, Phone Book and more. It measures 145 x 73 x 9.5mm and weighs in at 175 grams and I hope you like White because that is the only color being offered at both Bell and Virgin.
This is not the phone for everybody, but it is a solid entry level smartphone and should give the Moto G and Moto E a good run for their money. ZTE is here to stay and it will be interesting to see what else they bring over to Canada. Please hit us up on our Google+ Page and let us know if the ZTE Grand X might be something you be interest in purchasing...as always, we would love to hear from you.
