We are happy to celebrate regional carrier SaskTel's twenty-five anniversary of providing wireless coverage to the great Province of Saskatchewan. While it's true that Saskatchewan was explored in 1690, settled in 1774, became a province in 1905, and SaskTel has been providing wireless service since August 8, 1989. Ron Styles, SaskTel President and CEO, said the "cellular service and network access has allowed Saskatchewan people to become citizens of our global world. We are very proud to have brought a technology to this province that enriches the social, economic, personal and business opportunities of all residents, and has fundamentally changed the way we live."
What he said is totally true - wireless and mobile capabilities have certainly changed our lifestyles from seeing only what is around our own little piece of the world to seeing and being connected to the entire world. I remember asking my younger brother many years ago, why do I need the internet...what is on there that I need to see - now I could not work or live without it. SaskTel helped bring that same realization to its over 615,000 wireless subscribers in Saskatchewan. Besides providing wireless service to Saskatchewan, it also provides over 4,100 jobs in the province. SaskTel has noted that it has spent over $1 billion on their network since 1998 that it serves 98-percent of the population.
SaskTel has kept up with the times - in 1989, they started with their analog network and nine years later in 1998, SaskTel's CDMA network launched, followed by EVDO in 2005. SaskTel announced the roll out of its 3G network in 2010, followed by its 4G HSPA network in 2012, but only a year later, they launched their 4G LTE network to keep pace with its competition.
To dedicate this 25 year anniversary, they actually construct a website with information and highlights from the past quarter century (see the link below). There are humorous drawings with celebrities, such Michael Jackson, Harry Potter, Spiderman and even Canada's own bad-boy, Justin Bieber! There are contest that you can enter and a calendar of events taking place and, of course, a section on why you should pick SaskTel for your wireless needs. They have the "Highest in Customer Satisfaction with Full-Service Wireless Carriers, Three Years in a Row," and there are over 140 SaskTel Stores to service you across Saskatchewan and their only hometown provider. Congratulations, and here is to 25 more years of wireless service!
