It was not all that many years ago when a camera on a cellphone was an afterthought – mainly used to take pictures for your contacts and that was about it. Half the crowd clamored for better cameras and the other half (I was in it) yelled back, it is a cellphone, not a camera – go buy a DSLR if you want to take good pictures. My, have times changed – now most of us (me included) expect our smartphones to be like a Swiss Army Knife…able to everything, especially take good photos. It is not surprising then, that many of the more popular apps have to do with photography – either camera apps or filter apps. One of the most popular iOS photo apps that falls into that latter category, ‘Afterlight,’ is finally available for Android.
‘Afterlight’ does duplicate some of Instagram’s feats, but has many high quality filters, textures and frames for retouching those photos that you take – all for only $0.99. Well, to be honest, there are two in-app purchases for an additional $0.99 each – one for Wallpapers and another for instant film filter pack. So for $2.97 you can have the whole shebang, which includes 59 filters – 27 fully adjustable original filters, 14 guest filters from various Instagramers, and a new Seasons filter pack that includes 18 additional filters. There are 66 available textures based on 35mm and instant film – using a range of real and natural light leaks and the instant film look of years gone by when we had the Polaroid Instant Land cameras with white around the borders where the chemicals resided. There are adjustment tools that allow you to quickly and easily crop your photos with 15 presets – rotate, vertical and horizontal flip tools and a straightening tool.
Afterlight also helps you find a suitable frame for your photo – 77 different choices, some simplistic and other adjustable frames, all paired perfectly for with Instagram. You can also get an additional Wallpaper Pack ($0.99) as well. If you tag your photos on Instagram with #Afterlight and follow @afterlightapp, there is a chance you will be featured on their official Instagram.
Please hit us up on our Google+ Page and let us know what you think of Afterlight…as always, we would love to hear from you.
