That being said, we can get started. Most of you probably know what a pain it is when you buy a device from a carrier and it’s locked. You just can’t use any other network on there and if you’re travelling abroad you’re out of luck. There is only one way to unlock to unlock the HTC Desire 816, via SIM unlock code. There are a few ways you can track it down though. You can always get a SIM unlock code from a third party for a certain fee of course, though some providers will unlock your device for free, usually after a certain time has passed though. Let’s name a few big network providers and their policies. O2 will unlock your device for a fee of £15, 12 months after you purchased it. On the other hand, T-Mobile will unlock it for you after you pay off the device and AT&T will do the same thing if the device is paid off and 60 days has passed since you purchased it. Each provider has different policies of course, so it’s best if you get their unlocking information straight from the source.
If you want to SIM unlock your Desire 816, you’ll need the IMEI number of your device and a nanoSIM card from another network service provider. First you need to dial *#06# in order to obtain your IMEI number, after you get it, write it down. Call your service provider and ask them for a SIM unlock code (if you the unlock policy requirements) , they will ask you for your IMEI number and will fill out a request form. After they process your request they’ll e-mail the SIM unlock code to you, usually within 3 days, depending on the network provider.
After you’ve received the SIM unlock code one way or another, it’s time to unlock your device. Turn off your Desire 816 and remove the nanoSIM card from it. Insert a nanoSIM card from an another network provider and power on the device. The device will prompt you to enter the SIM unlock code, do that. That’s it, you’ve unlocked your HTC Desire 816.
