ZTE Corporation is a Chinese multinational telecommunications equipment company that makes a multitude of products used in the communications field, including mobile phones. Their name may not yet be a household name, however, that may soon change as they begin to spread out throughout the world with their smartphones. ZTE is one of the top five largest smartphone manufacturers in China and in the top ten, worldwide. Initially, they sold their devices only in China, but they have slowly expanded overseas sales and eventually partnered with Canada's Telus.
Today a tipster for our source was able to snag a quick snapshot showing the ZTE Grand X launching exclusively on Bell on July 29. There are many variations of the Grand X, so exact specs are a little spotty, however, we think the Bell version will sport a 5-inch 720p display and be powered by a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz. It looks like either a 5MP or 8MP would be used for the main camera and a 1MP front-facing camera for video chatting and selfies. All of this is powered by a 2400mAh battery and would come with HSPA+ connectivity and weighs in at 175 grams. Word is that it will be running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out of the box.
There has been a lot of buzz lately that ZTE was going to start using stock Android right out of the box – complete with the Google Now Launcher. ZTE will not reveal its future smartphone plans, but I am surprised that more companies selling Android devices, especially low-middle range devices would not jump at the chance to offer stock Android. Updating the devices would be so easy and save ZTE and others valuable personnel resources designing their own 'skin.' Maybe ZTE will surprise us all with stock Android on the Grand X or update to that…we can only hope!
This may not be the device for everybody, but it has decent specifications and only costs $149.95 with no contract – not bad at all. Please hook up with us on our Google+ Page and let us know what you think about the ZTE invading Canada…is this a device that might interest you or are you looking for something more high-end, like the new LG G3 coming August 1…as always, we would love to hear from you.
