Samsung's Tizen Gear 2 Gets PayPal App

In order for smartwatches to be accepted and widely used by more than just a few tech junkies, they have to be somewhat functional and add some value to our existence.  In order to do that, there must be applications developed that customers will find useful and easy to use.  PayPal is one such application that is widely used by mobile device users - a much safer (so it seems) way to make online payments without having to surrender your credit card or bank information over the internet at some merchant that just happens to have the lowest price.

PayPal got a huge boost when we could use it on our smartphones and now they are hoping that adding a smartwatch application will have the same effect.  At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014, earlier this year, the new Samsung Gear 2 was announced, as well as a PayPal application for the Tizen driven Gear 2 - and Gear 2 Neo.  A few months have passed us by, but the application is finally available to download on your smartwatch.  It comes to us in version 1.40, so it indicates that much testing and refinements were made in the beta stages before it was released.

What is great about this application of PayPal is that it can be used independently of your smartphone.  Right from your wrist you can manage your PayPal account - View your balance and recent transactions - Receive payment notifications - View and save offers to your wallet - Check-in to local stores to make payments.  I use the PayPal app on my smartphone all of the time to manage my PayPal activities and I am sure that using your smartwatch without needing your smartphone will be a welcomed addition to the PayPal family of mobile apps.

Remember, the PayPal application is rolling out via both country and then by carrier, so it may be a short wait until you actually have access to it on your smartwatch - but what is another week, after months of anticipation.  Please hit us up on our Google+ Page and let us know if you use any PayPal mobile apps, own a Samsung Gear 2 or Gear Neo, and if you have downloaded the PayPal app and if you like always, we would love to hear from you.
