Sony's Xperia Z2 is the Official Smartphone of the 2014 World Cup; Sony Holds Contest to Celebrate

Smartphone manufacturers have been known to sponsor worldwide sports events. Most recently we had Samsung at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi Russia, and now Sony is stepping into that spotlight. The 2014 FIFA World Cup official smartphone sponsor has been discovered to be Sony and the Sony Xperia Z2.

As one of the top sponsors of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Sony has launched a promo  video(watch below) as well as a contest. The contest has been dubbed the Sony Football Challenge and for the grand prizes Sony Mobile gets a little help from the other Sony divisions. The grand prize winner gets not only a Sony Xperia Z2 smartphone and Xperia Z2 tablet, but also a Playstation 4, a VIP trip to Morocco and more. Even if you don't win the grand prize, Sony is giving the 10 runner ups their very own Sony Xperia Z2 smartphones and a little swag as well. The prizes are definitely worth a shot to enter, though it may not be that easy to win.

In order to enter the contest you must make a prediction as to what the final scores will be for each of the 64 World Cup games. The more you get right, the better your chance of winning the grand prize, and the top 100 people will be posted to a leaderboard in the Xperia Lounge app. The Xperia Lounge app is also where you can enter the contest. Though the contest is very exciting, there is also that promo video.

Sony released a very emotional video as the promotion for the World Cup. You may find this very emotional especially if you follow a team competing very closely. The tagline in the video is "feel every detail" and after watching it you may be feeling the chills. Though it is a short video, you can feel just how amazing it is when the world gets together for a time celebrating something they love. Make sure you download the app, if you haven't already and enter the contest. Also be sure to tune into the World Cup and cheer your team on.

After you've made your predictions in the Xperia Lounge app, come back and tell us which team you are hoping makes it all the way.
