Up until now, Google has only made Glass available in the United States. The $1,500 price tag that comes a long with being a Glass Explorer has made some people shy away from the desire to be part of the experience, but what's been stopping users overseas and other regions around the globe isn't the price, it's been the lack of availability to buy. Google has made various efforts to expand on their Glass program in many ways here in the U.S. and now it finally sounds like international users may be getting their chance to enter the beta as well. The rumors state that Google may be announcing their plans for the international launch of Google Glass at the upcoming Google I/O which is just a couple weeks away.
There's been talk of more than just one region getting their chance at Google Glass access in the past including Japan and the UK, and if this news about Google Glass getting the international announcement at the developer conference is true, we could be seeing loads more beta users coming to the Explorer program soon which in time also means loads more applications. More applications means Google Glass will have more capabilities and with Glass having more features through available apps, it'll be moving ever closer to a consumer wide launch. While it isn't impossible that we could be seeing Google Glass come to consumers sooner than later, one has to wonder if the international beta testing will take just as long as it has for the U.S.
Other questions arise along with this rumor as well, like whether or not Google will charge the same price to international Explorers upon purchase. Will they introduce the beta to international users through multiple rounds of invites or just make it completely open like it is now here in the states? Very soon we should have some of those questions answered but in the meantime if you reside outside of the U.S. and have been interested in taking part in the Google Glass Explorers program, it might be advantageous to start saving up just in case Google opens up availability in your region.
