This morning, Boost Mobile announced a new device that's hitting their lineup. Which is the Kyocera Hydro Icon. It's a $149.99 smartphone that is water-resistant and features a 4.5-inch qHD display, that's 960x540 resolution. It also features a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 8GB of storage, with a microSD card slot, 8MP camera on the back with a 2MP front-facing shooter, along with 4G LTE (no word on Spark yet), wireless charging, Android 4.3, and a 2000mAh battery.
So for a $149 phone, that's off contract, it's actually pretty decent. Especially with it being dust, and water resistant. You don't typically find water resistant phones at that price, but nice to see it available. Boost Mobile will have the Kyocera Hydro Icon available on June 17th, both in-store and online. This will be coupled with Boost Mobile's new rate plans which start as low as $40/month and include data buckets. Basically you get about 2GB of high-speed data, then you are throttled until your billing cycle resets. It's not the end of the world, and it's definitely better than getting charged per gigabyte you use each month.
Boost Mobile is part of Sprint's network, so before you jump ship over to Boost Mobile, be sure that you have adequate service from Sprint and Boost Mobile. While Sprint isn't the worst for coverage, they also aren't the best, so it's important to check before you jump ship. And if you're already on Boost Mobile, the Kyocera Hydro Icon appears to be a pretty great device, given it's price point. How many of you are planning on picking up the Kyocera Hydro Icon on Boost Mobile next week when it launches?
