Tech startup OnePlus has a universally acclaimed winner on their hands, the OnePlus One is definitely worthy as a flagship device with a price which is much less than that commanded by the current flagships from Samsung, Sony and HTC. Once the long-awaited OnePlus One was announced, the fact that the device would run CyanogenMod – one of the more famous after-market Android-based OS – came to light, with albeit a twist. OnePlus One runs on a slightly modded and tweaked version of CyanogenMod (CM) 11, which the CM team has termed CM 11S. Incidentally, it seems that the tweaks and mods extend to some upgraded and redesigned apps, namely the Camera, Gallery and a CyanogenMod Theme Gallery.

Since the OnePlus One has been given a limited release right now, with wider general availability sometime by May- June, the device is not in many hands right now. However if you're running a stock version or AOSP based or CM based ROM, you can use some apps off the OnePlus One thanks to the fantastic work by the guys over at SmartDroid.de. The devs at SmartDroid.de have managed to pull out APKs for the new camera, the gallery app, AudioFX, Boot-animation and CyanogenMod theme store. The good news is that you would need root access only if you wish to flash the boot-animation, while the other APKs will work by the normal sideloading process. Though we would definitely not ask you to load third-party APKs onto your device, for various reasons, we would definitely tell you how to go about this. Sideloading is a simple process, wherein first you must acquire the APKs required – check out this link from SmartDroid.de – or the source of this article, and transfer them to your phone. Before beginning the installation, head over to Settings/Security and check the box for 'Unknown Sources' which will allow the installation of apps which are not from the Google Play store. Now just click on the APK and begin the installation, however be forewarned that we take no responsibility whatsoever for you damaging your device in any which way.

My involvement with Android - as a fan and user - started in 2009-10 when I had dual-booted Android 2.2 Froyo on my SE Xperia X1. I have been following the rapid (and much deserved) rise of Android since then and have been rooting and flashing every android phone I could get my hands on. A self-proclaimed tech expert, in my free time I catch up on my reading and play with my one-year-old daughter.
