Amazon Appstore: Buy 5 Free Apps, Get $10 in Amazon Coins In Return

May 22, 2014 - Written By Peter Holden

It might be a little early for our weekly GiveAway (it’s usually on Fridays), but that doesn’t mean you should look a gift horse in the mouth and turn down a freebie. Todays treat comes courtesy of Amazon who is giving away 1000 Amazon Coins (worth $10) via their Android Appstore as part of their Memorial Day promotion. The Coins can be used for purchasing other apps or for In App Purchases(IAP). All you have to do is visit the Amazon Appstore desktop site (click the source button below), and purchase the following 5 Indie Apps free-of-charge:

Food Network in the Kitchen

For the amateur master chefs among us, this app gives you ‘instant access to your favourite Food Network chefs and thousands of their most popular recipes’. You can search for either your favourite chef or for recipes that match your selected ingredients. The app also incorporates a unit converter as well as multiple cooking timers, which will come in handy if you are like me and start cooking something and then forget about it after seeing some new gadget review on a certain Android site.If you are into cooking, or even just like to find recipes for your partner to cook, this looks like it could be useful.

iHeartRadio is a free music and internet radio streaming app in the Pandora mould, that promises access to over 1500 live stations, featuring more than 16 million songs by 400.000 artists. Whilst I haven’t used it yet, the iHeartRadio app has achieved a 4.5 star rating out of over 5000 reviews, so its surely worth a look.

Strawberry Shortcake Bake Shop

This game is fairly self-explanatory, in that kids have fun making virtual desserts, via in-game mechanics without the usually mess that is left over when cooking in real life, with lots of handy baking tips from Strawberry Shortcake herself. I have to confess, I have not installed this app, and have no intention of doing so. But if you have young kids ( in Preschool and Kindergarten) who like to pester you when baking, this should be a surefire way of keeping them out of your hair.

Don’t Step The White Tile

Don’t Step The White Tile is apparently one of Japans most popular games, with over 500,000 downloads. This game looks to be one of those annoyingly addictive games in the same vein as Flappy Birds and Temple Run, except that here you are running on a path of black tiles, the game speed increases for every black tile negotiated, if you step on a white tile the game ends. Infuriatingly.

Dr Panda’s Restaurant

Finally, here we have Dr Panda’s Free Cooking game for kids, which allows the little ones to virtually manage a restaurant, performing such tasks as cooking the food for animal guests, washing dishes or even extending the restaurant. This version includes 3 animal guests, 3 basic recipes and 1 mini-game that helps teach about helping with housework.  It promises to be safe for kids, with no third party advertisements or in-app purchases.

Remember, you don’t actually have to install the apps, you only have to purchase them via the Amazon Appstore desktop site, just in case you were having worries about accidentally opening Strawberry Shortcake by mistake in public. Have fun spending your 1000 Amazon Coins. Lastly, this promotion is US only. Sorry guys.
