On Tuesday, the London-based startup, TransferWise launched their Android app on the Google Play Store. The app makes transferring money between currencies much easier to do. TransferWise is a peer-to-peer service that gets around the bank fees, that we all hate. There was technically an app already on the Play Store for TransferWise, but it was actually just a shortcut to the website. Now we finally have a full fledged Android app, that actually looks pretty good. While it doesn't really follow the Google guidelines for app design, it does look like it works well for this app, which is what we really need.
The TransferWire app is compatible with Android 2.3 and above, so that means it's compatible with about 90% of Android devices out there. It also allows you to transfer money to anyone, anywhere in the world. Not quite for free, but pretty cheap. Of course the fees depend on the countries the money is going to and from. TransferWire launched about three years ago, and according to the company they've transferred £1 billion of customers' money. The company has also stated that they have seen an eightfold of transfers since last May.
For those interested, we have the link to Google Play down below to download the app. The app is great for those that want to send money home, or to a friend that might be out of the country, or even to pay for services. I haven't had a need to use it just yet, but from what I've heard and seen, it looks great, and works even better. How many of you are going to use Transfer Wire to transfer money out of the country the next time? Remember the app is free, but the service varies in pricing, depending on where you're sending money too. Be sure to let us know in the comments below.
