Peel's Smart Remote App Coming Pre-Installed on the Samsung Galaxy S5

We already know there's a ton of apps on the Galaxy S5 out-of-the-box and Peel is one of them. They made their announcement earlier this morning about their app on the Galaxy S5. Which this isn't the first time that they have been on a Galaxy device. They have been on just about any device that has an IR blaster. Including the Samsung Galaxy S4. With the app, Galaxy S5 users can easily control their TV and DVR from the comfort of their phone, as long as it can send a signal to your TV or DVR. Additionally, similar to the Sense TV app found on the HTC One (M8), it also works as a programming guide, where you can see all kinds of great things on TV. It's actually a really cool app, I used it on the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition last year and found it worked great. For those that are interested the full press release will be at the bottom of this post. Also, for those that haven't ordered a Galaxy S5 yet, we've got those links down below as well.

Peel's Smart Remote App to be included on latest Samsung, HTC, ZTE Smart Phones

"WatchON" now becomes "Smart Remote," preloaded on Galaxy S5

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA - April 11, 2014 - The launch of the new Samsung Galaxy S5 today brings another significant milestone for Peel, the developer of the Smart Remote application which comes preloaded on next generation Galaxy, HTC and ZTE Android smart phones.

The new Samsung "Smart Remote" app replaces "WatchON," the same application powered by Peel and preloaded on six previous Galaxy devices including the Samsung Galaxy S4, the Galaxy Note phone and tablet, and Galaxy Tab 1, 2, and 3.

Peel smartRemoteâ„¢ technology is also preloaded on HTC devices such as the HTC One (M8) unveiled last month, where it is called "Sense TV."  Peel also has a preload deal with Chinese manufacturer ZTE and another half dozen smart phone providers in the works.

Designed to enhance the TV entertainment experience, the Peel Smart Remote app on next generation Android devices is more than a remote control and more than just a simple TV programming guide. As a universal remote control, the Smart Remote app allows you to control your TV, DVR or set-top box for cable or satellite TV, eliminating the need to have multiple remote controls. The Smart Remote app is also a TV programming guide that provides personalized programming recommendations based on your interests and past viewing behavior, and allows you to set reminders.

"We are excited to be a part of the new Galaxy S5 launch and to be a part of building a smarter and more enjoyable TV watching experience for all the next generation phones and tablets equipped with IR technology," said Bala Krishnan, co-founder and chief product officer for Peel. "Our commitment is to continually innovate our core application to allow Samsung, HTC, ZTE and others to bring these added benefits to their customers."

Peel currently has more than 58 million activations across all devices and partners globally, handling 3 billion remote control commands every month. By the end of the year, Peel expects to reach 125 million activations of its app which is also available for free from the Google Play store.
