Automate Your Chromecast With This New Tasker Plugin Called AutoCast

If there's one thing that the Chromecast has been lacking, besides proper games by way of screen mirror support, it's automation. There is a way to automate just about anything you can think of with your android devices, smartwatches, and other smart devices using a root enabled app called Tasker, and Tasker has plenty of various plugins that allow you to enable plenty of ways to automate just about anything. The new app from joaomgcd who also makes the apps, Autovoice, Auto L0cation, Auto Pebble for the Pebble smartwatch, Auto Unlock and various others, has just released his new app called AutoCast, which you can probably guess, brings a fantastic set of automated features and functions to your Chromecast.

With AutoCast you can cast a myriad of different things to your Chromecast that you weren't previously able to do, like web pages, and images and video simultaneously. You can also cast things like notifications from your phone or device to your Chromecast, so you can see them on screen. So if you're watching a movie and don't want to miss out on anything good, you can cast your notifications to the screen so that if one comes in you won't have to look down at your phone or pause the film. You can simply see what the notification is right from the TV and continue watching, or pause it to respond if it's something important. AutoCast will also enable your Chromecast to read out your notifications to you, so you won't even have to look at the notification if you don't want to.

Autocast also has the ability to change out the standard Chromecast home screen with an alternate home screen, that you can completely customize with different content. You can use whatever images you like, so if you want the image roll on the home screen to play a slideshow of your trip from last summer, you can do that, and then populate the home screen with information like current weather, time, date, and if the heater is on/off in your home. (We imagine that the heater part obviously requires some extra stuff for it to work) AutoCast is extremely full featured and really the possibilities are endless on what you could have it do. We have included the link to the play store to grab the app which is free, but to unlock most of the features you'll need the app license key which costs $1.37.
