Telegram Messenger Hits 35 Million Active Users, 15 Million Daily

Instant messaging has really taken off in the last couple of years, and while WhatsApp was always a thing, it's recent sale to Facebook for a massive $19 Billion cemented its place in the digital big league. Not everyone likes it when Facebook buys up services and while the privacy fears surrounding the Instagram purchase were mostly misguided, a messaging service causes a lot more concern. Especially when you consider that a huge amount of people are using these apps to contact loved ones and perhaps share sensitive information. Just as we saw disgruntled users of Instagram doing, people have turned to Telegram, a messenger app that was born in Russia to keep prying eyes out of people's messages. It's a fully-featured messaging app with the ability to share 1GB of video and talk to as many as 200 people at any given time.

After the glitch that hit WhatsApp users last month, Telegram has become the new kid on the block when it comes to instant messaging and today, some very impressive stats about the service have emerged. There are now 35 Million active users on Telegram, with around 15 Million of those being active on a daily basis. No matter how you cut it, that's a lot of activity and when you also take into account that over the last 30 days alone 8 Billion messages have been sent back and forth. Talk about growth, this is the sort of growth that online services can only dream of these days, and yet Telegram has managed to do so with very little in the way of service disruption or issues. Telegram has taken off rapidly and it looks like the service is only going to keep going up, something that we're sure will be of great interest to the developer's behind this great little app.

Services like Telegram seem to be two-a-penny these days, but it's difficult for anyone to emerge out from underneath the WhatsApp shadow, BBM can't seem to manage it and yet these little known app has risen to the top of the instant messaging game. It makes you think what's next for a service like Telegram. If you want to try out Telegram, simply follow the link below.
