Earlier we learned that T-Mobile was going to be carrying both storage size models for the Samsung Galaxy S5, and now it seems that they may also be picking up the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra as well. T-Mobile didn't typically carry Sony devices in the past, in fact Sony devices aren't typically sold at carriers stateside. However this wound't be the first Sony smartphone that T-Mobile has sold as they got their hands on the Sony Xperia Z last year, and the upcoming Z1S is slated for the magenta carrier as well. This new device called the Xperia T2 Ultra is a phablet size device with a giant 6-inch display, which reported the other day would be heading to Asian markets.
According to the infamous leaker evleaks though T-mobile is on the list of supported carriers and the device will launch in the US sometime later this year. There is no actual word on when T-mobile will have this available and if it'll be sold in retail stores or just online. If you're a T-Mobile subscriber though all that may not matter as having the device as an option is plenty exciting. We'll have to wait until further details pop up about the price as well as there was no mention on what this device might cost once T-Mobile launches it.
For now we'll focus more on the specs of the device since we have that information available. The Sony Xperia T2 Ultra will fall into the mid-range device category. It's a little weird to think of a phablet sized device as being mid-range, but stranger things have happened. With that said, the T2 Ultra will not be water resistant and dust proof like the high-end series of devices offered by Sony. It uses a 6-inch IPS display that carries a 720 x 1280 pixel resolution. It does support LTE so you'll be able to connect to the web faster and utilize all web connected capabilities faster as well, given that you're in an LTE supported area. It also has NFC support, which is becoming more and more common on newer devices. For mid-range specs, it sports a decent 13MP rear camera that should take pretty good photos, and it has a 3,000 mAh battery to help stay powered up with that larger sized display. The T2 Ultra will carry a Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor and will have 1GB of RAM. Storage wise you'll be looking at 8GB of internal space, but the storage is expandable with a microSD slot. Just like the rest of Sony's devices, the Xperia T2 Ultra will be pretty thin. It measures at 165.2 x 83.8 x 7.65 mm. Sadly, the device will be running Android 4.3 according to reports. Hopefully it will get an update to Kit Kat sooner than later and hopefully Tmo subscribers will able to grab this for a decent price.
