Nothing says "new product coming soon" like a discount. Just yesterday, Samsung sent out invites for their February 24th event in Barcelona where it sounds like we are going to be seeing the Galaxy S5, and possibly a new Galaxy Gear. Which has been the rumor for quite some time. The Galaxy Gear launched in October with a pretty hefty price tag, especially considering it was only compatible with 2 devices at launch. It's now compatible with about a dozen Samsung devices however. Now we're seeing a price cut on the smartwatch, but not just in the US.
Right now the Galaxy Gear is going for $249 here in the US, around $244 (Rs. 22,290) in India, and over in Europe for €210. Right now we're seeing the Galaxy Gear for $249 at both Amazon and Best Buy, it could drop even more as we aren't sure if that's Samsung's price drop or Amazon's, we'll have to wait and see.
The Galaxy Gear isn't a terrible device, but it's worth noting that it is a first-generation smartwatch from Samsung. So it's not going to be perfect. But it does have a great looking display, and even a camera in the band. So you can take creeper pictures. Battery life was said to be about a day, but I found when I was reviewing it, that it would last about 2-3 days, depending on how much I was using it. Samsung has made quite a few changes to the Gear through software updates in the past number of months, so some of my gripes about the Galaxy Gear don't exist anymore, like the notifications issue.
So how many of you out there are going to pick up a Samsung Galaxy Gear now? Be sure to let us know in the comments down below if you do.
