With the Mobile World Congress (M.W.C) event in Barcelona fast approaching (24-27 February 2014), all sorts of rumours and ‘unofficial’ leaks are flying around about all sorts of devices. One piece of news you can take to the bank is the date and time of Sony’s press conference, scheduled to take place at 08:30 CET (07:30 GMT) on Monday 24th February, the event’s opening day.
What is Sony going to unveil? Well, it could be the announcement of two new flagships in the first half of 2014; the Sirius (D6503) and the Canopus, or the successor to the Xperia Tablet Z which won plaudits for its design and build quality. The Sirius handset is rumored to be the 5.2-inch follow-up to the fairly successful Z1, featuring a 5.2-inch Full HD IPS display, a slightly upgraded Snapdragon 800, as well as a bump up to 3GB of RAM. And whilst the camera hasn’t received an increase in megapixel count, it does appear that is shipping with an upgraded sensor and the ability to capture 4K videos. The Sirius has been the subject of various leaks and rumours in recent weeks, and has even had a full KitKat UI breakdown. Coming in at “only” 5-inches, the Canopus appears to have a further bump in specifications, featuring a Snapdragon 805 and possibly a more powerful Adreno 400 GPU.
Not much is known about the successor to the Xperia Tablet Z, other than that it allegedly carries the codename ‘Castor‘. Though it is reasonable to assume it will also feature a 10.1 display like it’s predecessor, with similar hardware specifications to the previously mentioned Sirius and Canopus.
