BBM For Android Gets Update To Easily Let You Find Friends

Good news for BBM users on Android. The latest update lets you more easily find your friends and acquaintances that are already using BBM just like you. Gone are the days where you have to send multiple SMS messages or hop into another group messaging chat, invite everyone who you normally talk to, and ask them all if they use BBM or plan to. Now you can just easily find the friends that already use BBM and add them to your BBM messaging list. This new feature is a request that has been in the pipelines and has been asked for by BBM users for a while now, so it's great to see that developers are paying attention to what the users want out of the app.

The new feature is quite easy to use, as you really don't have to do much. The "find friends feature" as it's being called scans your smartphone's contact list for you, and seeks out and notifies you of which people in your contact list also use the BBM app. After detecting who uses BBM, it'll let you send a PIN invite to anyone who has it. If little to none of the contacts in your phonebook use BBM, you can urge them to download the app and try it out with you by sending them invites by way of an SMS or email invite.

The update for the BBM for Android was live as of 8 am PST this morning, so that's 11 am EST for you folks over on the east coast. Once the BBM app updates for you, the very next time you open up BBM the Find Friends feature will pop up once for you before anything else. From then on, you'll be able to check it whenever you like by accessing the feature from the "invite" tab menu, which is located in the bottom left-hand corner of the app. The Find Friends feature is definitely a useful one to have, but even more exciting is that BBM V2.0 is on the way soon, with tons of new features for the app like BBM Voice, BBM Channels, massive amounts of Emoticons, and faster, easier ways to share things with your BBM friends. BBM is shaping up to be heavyweight competitor for the year of 2014, and easily stands to overtake some of the more popular messaging apps out there. You can watch the video below to get a quick reference of what's to come in the new BBM v2, and you can also hope over to the Blackberry blog to read a little more detail on each feature.
