Here we are looking at another new Glassware, this one is called the DriveSafe app for Glass. Based on the name, you probably know exactly what this app does, but it aims to help keep drivers from falling asleep while driving. However, it does also warn you that the app is "not guaranteed to stop you from falling asleep." Which makes sense, and they are also covering all their bases, which is a good thing. DriveSafe does a few simple things. It will provide you with an alert if you start to fall asleep. The alert will be audible and triggered by the bone conducting speaker built-into Glass. It will also help navigate you to the nearest rest area so you can get some sleep, which is a pretty useful feature, at least in my opinion.
The DriveSafe app can be sideloaded onto Glass, and once you have it installed, it can be activated by saying "OK Glass, keep me awake". While the warnings make it pretty clear that the development team is not responsible for keeping you from falling asleep while driving. It is nice to have an app on Glass that attempts to keep you awake, or keep you from falling asleep behind the wheel and having an accident which is really important, in my opinion.
We've heard many people saying that Glass is distracting to drivers, however, those that I know that wear Glass while their driving say it's really the opposite. From having amazing GPS and Google Maps on Glass, to new apps like DriveSafe, I think it's more of a necessity now. It's always nice to see more and more apps landing for Glass. Hopefully we'll see Glass available to the public this year. How many of you would be interested in picking it up, if the price were right? Let us know in the comments below.
