You don’t have to be a Samsung fanboy to be excited for the Galaxy S5, and today we might be getting a better idea of just when the popular smartphone will be revealed. Samsung Vice President and Head of Design Strategy Dong-hoon Chang has sent the Korean media chattering by suggesting the reveal of the handset will land either during or around Mobile World Congress, which is scheduled to take place in Barcelona at the end of February.

However, it may not be the best idea to take this as solid confirmation, as according to Korean site inews24, he only said that reports of the Galaxy S5’s long-rumored MWC 2014 announcement were “about right.” The thing that makes us suspicious here is the fact that Samsung has traditionally opted to announce new entries in the Galaxy S line up during separate events, a strategy which ensures that all of the attention stays on Samsung and its new handset. Would the company really go for a reveal at MWC instead of holding a launch event of its own? It’s hard to say.
Remember, Dong-hoon Chang didn’t exactly confirm the MWC 2014 rumors, merely suggesting they were close to the mark. That could mean that we’ll see a separate Samsung reveal event taking place in close proximity to MWC. While we’re tempted to believe that we’ll see the Galaxy S5 before March 2014 rolls around, it’s important to keep in mind that with this industry, nothing is official until we’re watching or reading the announcement.
Elsewhere on the Internet, etnews is reporting that the rumored Samsung Galaxy F will be housed in metal instead of plastic and should be getting a reveal around the same time as the Galaxy S5. We’ve heard that the Galaxy F will be billed as a “super-premium” version of the Galaxy S lineup, so announcing it alongside the Galaxy S5 does make some degree of sense. Again, all of the information in this article should be considered speculation until we have details that are a little more solid coming straight from Samsung, so it’s best to take this all with a grain of salt. That being said, it’s definitely an exciting time to be a Samsung fan, so hopefully these whispers of an MWC 2014 reveal for the Galaxy S5 prove to be true.
