Right now, Amazon is sending out invites for a recruiting event, in Cambridge, MA. Right now details are very scarce, but the invitation was first found by The Boston Globe, only hints at something big from Amazon. We're all thinking an Amazon phone right? That's what our first thought was.
Unsurprisingly, the invite doesn't give much away, but it hints at Amazon's delivery of digital media in a different way. They also go on to note they'll "disrupt the current marketplace", so perhaps a Chromecast-like device? They also caution that the program or device is a version one offering. Amazon is also stating that they have "teams in various locations partnering on this project". The invitation goes on to say Amazon believes the new product "will be even bigger than Kindle". So this is BIG.
But hang on, this is a recruiting event. So this is probably where Amazon is looking to bring in developers and get them giddy about whatever is being shown off by Jeff Bezos and Co. We're pretty sure Amazon is showing off something new at this event in Cambridge, but it's still a blind version one product, which doesn't get the juices flowing. It sounds like Amazon will show off a prototype, and with digital media being their bailiwick outside of selling goods, it leaves a lot to our imagination. I'm thinking it's something like the Chromecast, except of course, for Amazon and only Amazon apps would be compatible. Perhaps this is the set-top box we've heard rumored for a few years now from Amazon? We're really excited to see what Amazon has in store for this recruiting event. But in all likelihood, we probably won't see much come out of this event in terms of news. More than likely, those that attend will be under an NDA. Which sucks, but we do know Amazon has something big planned, that's coming soon. And obviously they want developer support before releasing it.
