Alcatel Onetouch Idol X And Onetouch Idol Mini Now Available On Bell

At CES 2014 this month, Alcatel onetouch announced that they would be bringing a couple of smartphones to Canada.  Bell and Alcatel onetouch wasted no time in announcing the Alcatel onetouch Idol X and the Idol Mini are now available on their website for purchase.  The pricing is attractive on both models with the onetouch Idol X at US$224 and the Idol Mini running only US$134 off contract and free if you sign a two-year agreement. There is no LTE capability, but they run on Bell's HSPA+ network.

The Alcatel onetouch Idol X is the higher end device and comes with a 5-inch Full HD 1080p IPS Display.  Powering the device is a 1.5GHz Mediatek MT6589 Quad-Core Processor with 2GB of RAM and 8GB of Internal Storage, expandable up to 32GB.  It sports a 13MP Main Camera and a 2MP Front-Facing Camera, ideal for video chatting or taking the occasional selfie.  Powering the device is a non-removable 2000mAh battery and it will be running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.  It is 140.4 x 67.5 x 6.9mm in size and 130g in weight, and have your choice of either Black or Red.

The Alcatel onetouch Idol Mini is for the more budget minded shopper.  It comes with a 4.3-inch IPS FWVGA 854 x 480 Display Resolution.  It is powered by a MediaTek MT6572 Dual-Core Processor clocked at 1.3GHz, with 512MB RAM and 4GB of Internal Storage, expandable to 32GB.  The main Camera is 5MP and the Front-Facing Camera is of the VGA variety.  It is all powered by a non-removable 1700mAh battery and is running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.  It measures 127.1 x 62 x 7.9mm and weighs only 96g. The Idol Mini only comes in Black at this time.

Both, the onetouch Idol X and Idol Mini seem to offer a great value in the crowded field of smartphones.  They offer one for those that like the larger screen and the Idol Mini for those that think that 4.3-inches is the "sweet-spot" for their device.  The Idol X is great for shooting pictures or video, and has a large variety of shooting modes and editing tools so that every shot comes out the way that you intended.  If you have Bell TV service you can use their app and watch TV on your smartphone no matter when or where you find yourself.  It also has built-in gesture commands, such as simply turning you smartphone face-down to stop the ringing.
