While Motorola is has pushed out Android 4.4 KitKat to just about all their 2013 devices, Toshiba and other OEMs are still pushing out Android 4.3 to their devices. Today, Toshiba began pushing out the Android 4.3 update to their Excite Pro and Excite Write tablets which they announced earlier this year. We already know what to expect from Android 4.3. Mostly under-the-hood stuff, but there's also Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy, which is a pretty big feature. As it allows your device to connect to things like the Pebble, Galaxy Gear, or the Fitbit Force and use less energy from your phone. Which is a pretty big deal.
In the update, Toshiba has also updated a few of their own apps. That includes TruNote and TruCapture. The TruNote update brings the ability to convert notes to Office formats. While the TruCapture app update lets signature and sketches to be digitized. So if you do own one of these tablets from Toshiba, you're going to want to watch out for this update. Which is probably a staged rollout and should be hitting all the units sold within the next few weeks.
It looks like OEMs are starting to take Android OS updates a bit more seriously. As I can really never remember hearing Toshiba update their tablets in the past. And HTC is also pushing out KitKat already, alongside Motorola finishing up their KitKat updates. It's definitely great to see more OEMs pushing out updates quicker. It definitely can't hurt.
How many of you own a Toshiba Excite Pro or a Toshiba Excite Write tablet? Be sure to head into Settings > About Tablet > System Updates and tap on Check for updates and see if you can grab your Android 4.3 update as soon as possible. You're going to love it. It's no KitKat, but it's better than what you've got, that's for sure. Let us know how you're enjoying the update in the comments below.
