It’s no secret that Samsung’s marketing is pretty much unbeatable these days and as such, a lot of celebrities have appeared in Samsung’s adverts over the past couple of years. For the most part, celebrity placements in ads are pretty cheesy but, their effectiveness shouldn’t be underestimated. After all, attaching your brand to another “in” brand is certainly going to get some interest. Robin Thicke has become the latest celebrity to feature in a Samsung ad and this time around, it’s to promote Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Gear.
We reviewed both the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Gear and we found them to be pretty solid devices. Of course, the Gear does look a little cooler on Mr Thicke’s wrist but, that’s to be expected. In a new ad that comes just under one minute – perfect for TV – Robin comes across a group of young women listening to his single in a convertible, while riding a chopper no less. From there, the ad focuses on the Galaxy Note 3 for the most part, how easy it is to use the device with the S View case. There’s not much of the Galaxy Gear seen in this latest ad but, it is there and is clearly recognizable. It’s obviously a little cheesy but, with a certain generation, this ad is yet another home run for Sammy’s marketing division.
There’s something to be said for this kind of marketing, while users like ourselves will probably take no interest whatsoever, the average consumer will love it, especially young women. This is the sort of marketing that will keep Samsung at the top and unfortunately, cause companies like HTC to fall further behind. Of course, this is all mostly driven by money and right now, Samsung has the most of it when it comes to Android and if they keep on spending it like this, they’re going to need bigger treasure chests.
