Do you love shooters? We do too. That’s why we jumped at the chance to play Savant-Ascent. Savant-Ascent is a very fast paced indie action shooter that is all about Dubstep and high scores. Its actually much more than that but as soon as you watch the trailer or play the game for the first time those are the first couple things you notice. The theme for the game is that Savant is thrown out of his tower, and in effect his surroundings transform into enemy scrap robots who are dead set on destroying you. You must make your ascent back to the top of the tower and take back your domain. Blast enemies out of the sky with your powerful attacks, all to the tune of base bumping Dubstep music. This game is based around the electronica musical artist Savant, and is not only an amazing game but a tribute to his upcoming album orakel. The coolest part about the game lies not in the action and chaos of shooting everything in sight, but the pieces of a “CD” that you must acquire to move on to the next level in the game. If you collect all 4 you move to the next stage. As you progress through the game, these “CD’s” you collect serve two purposes. They act as your choice of music track for the next stage, and each music track also provides you with a unique power boost to your attacks. So the music is much more than just music. As a dubstep fan, I would have been happy just having the music in the background while I blast things away, but D-Pad studio took it to the next level by adding in a cool twist. Savant will task you with climbing back to the top of the tower to destroy the malicious orb that has cast you out. It’ll take some getting used to if you want to learn to dodge the attacks and perfect your timing, but its complete fun even once you get the hang of the game. As you progress and eventually beat the game, you’ll unlock different modes and newer content, with future updates for free that will add more content for you to play. Savant-Ascent is the best $1.99 you can spend this weekend guaranteed.
