Casual games are some of the best games out there. They allow you to pick up and play and yet put the game back down at any moment without worry of having stopped at the right point. There are generally no save points to worry about and their main goal is usually not eye-popping graphics but making you have fun. Some of the best casual games to come out this year include HayDay by Supercell, Dr Who: Legacy, Despicable Me, Plants VS Zombies 2, Rabbids Big Bang, and Ticket To Ride. All great games, but they didn’t quite make the cut.
Runner Up: Scotchy Scotch Toss
This years Runner Up for Casual game is a recent entry to the play store. First of all how could you not want to play a game based on Anchorman star Ron Burgundy? Second the game is just hilarious, and easy enough to play for an hour or 5 minutes. It’s a game of wits mostly(or as Ron Burgundy puts it…a game of deception, intrigue, and ice). Your goal is to flip ice cubes into his scotch glass. Land your shots and Burgundy will encourage you with praises, miss and he’ll bombard you with hilarious and demoralizing insults. Either way you laugh till your sides hurt. The game can be picked up in the Play Store for $1, so if you can’t wait for Anchorman 2, get your fix with Scotchy Scotch Toss.
Winner: Angry Birds Star Wars 2
When Angry Birds Star Wars 2 was released, I immediately knew it was going to be one of the best casual games of the year. It’s just one of the many Angry Birds themed games available, but possibly the most fun out of all of them. It’s the second star wars themed Angry Birds game to date(hopefully there will be a third) and offers up tons of crazy and goofy moments you’ve come to expect from Angry Birds. The coolest part about the game is your chance to “Join the Pork side!” and play as the pigs for the first time ever in an actual Angry Birds game or play as the memorable and lovable birds. your choice isn’t final though cause you can simply swap characters as you play. All your favorite star wars characters are back plus many more. You’ll have the opportunity to play as some of the most memorable characters(30 total), with each one having their very own special power up when you tap the screen. There are plenty of epic missions to achieve three stars on, and you just might have to use the force to get them. If you’re a Star Wars fan you’ll also love the cut scenes throughout the game. You can grab the game for free, but the ad-free version for $0.99 is a better and more enjoyable way to play.
