If you’ve been having a hard time following all of the Sony Xperia Z1s rumors, we won’t judge you. We’ve heard a lot of speculation about the device – some of it seemingly conflicting – and now we’ve got even more information about the handset surfacing. The latest details come from a new Digi-wo.com image that supposedly shows the Xperia Z1 and the Xperia Z1s side by side. Looking at the image below, we can see it wasn’t taken from the best angle, but assuming this is indeed the Xperia X1s, we can deduce a few things about the mysterious device.

The first is admittedly minor, as it appears the headphone jack has shifted position on the Xperia Z1s. The jack on the original Z1 hung out near the edge of the device, while the jack is positioned only slightly off-center in the supposed Z1s. It also appears that the two handsets are similar in size – something that conflicts with previous information we’ve heard about the Z1s. It was just a few days ago that we were told the Z1s would be Sony’s international version of the Z1f, which is a smaller device sporting a 4.3-inch display. Compare that to the Xperia Z1’s 5-inch screen, and there should be a rather obvious difference between the two in terms of size.
And yet, that’s not what the latest leaked image leads us to believe. Of course, it’s hard to tell since we don’t see either device in its entirety, but the Z1s appears to be just as wide – if not slightly wider – than the original Z1. All in all, it isn’t the most informative shot, but we imagine those who loved Sony’s Xperia Z1 are happy to see this nonetheless. It wasn’t too long ago that @evleaks suggested the device was scheduled for a 2013 announcement, but Sony is quickly running out of time if it’s planning a reveal before the New Year.
If this device can indeed challenge the Z1 in terms of size, then the Z1s may no longer be the international name for the Z1f. Instead, we may be looking at a simple refresh of the Z1, with the global Z1f to be officially named at a later date. At this point, it’s anyone’s guess as to what Sony is plotting, but hopefully we don’t have to wait much longer before the company starts confirming some information.
