Sony's Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 and SmartWatch 2 Now Available in the US

While Sony says there not focusing on the US market, that won't stop them from selling their devices here. Oh no, far from it in fact, a trio of Xperia devices has gone on sale directly from Sony and elsewhere on the web. Sony's Xperia Z Ultra, the Xperia Z1 and the SmartWatch 2 are now available to purchase in the US of A. Of course, these devices are sold as unlocked devices straight from Sony so, don't expect any carrier subsidies or anything like that – as you won't find them.

Starting with the Xperia Z1, you're looking at the successor to the Xperia Z that we reviewed earlier in the year. Righting many of the wrongs the original Xperia Z featured, the Xperia Z1 packs a punch in a number of key areas. It's got that Snapdragon 800 that many of you are craving this Fall and a great 20.7 MP camera with "G" lens technology. It's available from both Sony themselves and Amazon. The Xperia Z1 is more of a successor to the original Xperia Z but, if you missed out the first time around and don't mind paying full price for a device, this is a decent offering from Sony.

Moving on to bigger fish, the Xperia Z Ultra comes in at a massive 6.4-inches. However, Sony aren't just shipping a larger version of the Xperia Z for the sake of it. Inside, you'll find the same Snapdragon 800 and a 3,000 mAh battery. Unlike a lot of other smartphones, you can use whatever pen or pencil you like with the display to take notes on the Xperia Z Ultra. Of course, you should avoid anything that would leave a mark. This is available from Sony and Amazon, too.

For those looking for a new watch, the Sony SmartWatch 2 launches in the US today, too. Sony have already had a run at smartwatches in the past and they're hoping this time around, they've gotten it right. It might not be as loaded with specs as the Galaxy Gear is but, Sony is aiming to deliver a more hassle-free experience with the SmartWatch 2. Unlike the Gear we just reviewed, you can use this with whichever smartphone you currently have, which is a nice touch. Again, you can pick this up from either Sony or Amazon.
