Sony Introduces the Cyber-Shot QX10 and QX100 Camera Lenses at IFA 2013

IFA isn't quite underway just yet, but we are getting plenty of announcements today from many press events. Just a few minutes ago, Sony announced a new "accessory" for your smartphone. It's basically a camera lens that can attach to your smartphone and take pictures. You can also use it for selfies, and use your phone to control it. Sounds pretty awesome right? Well it actually is very awesome.

Sony has introduced us to the QX10 and the QX100. Both  are using Exmor CMOS Sensors. THe QX10 will be on sale for $250 while the QX100 will be on sale for $500. We aren't going to go through the entire spec list, because there's just too many specs here to mention but we will cover the key specs.

QX10:

  • 1.0" (13.2 x 8.8mm) Exmor R(R) CMOS Sensor
  • 20.9 Megapixels (effective pixels are 20.2)
  • Carl Zeiss "Vario-Sonnar T*" 7 elements in 6 groups (4 aspheric elements including AA lens)
  • Focus Range: iAuto:AF(W:Approx,5cm(0.16') to infinity, T:Approx.55cm(1.80') to infinity)
  • 3.6x Optical Zoom, during movie recording
  • Segment LCD display
  • Focus Modes: Single-shot AF, Manual Focus, and Touch AF
  • ISO: Auto, ISO 160-3200
  • White Balance: Auto, Daylight, Shade, Cloudy, Flourescent (Warm white, cool white, day white, daylight) C. Temp, Incadescent
  • Aperture: iAuto:AF(W:Approx.5cm(0.16') to infinity, T:Approx.55cm(1.80') to infinity)
  • Micro SD, microSDHC, microSDXC, Memory Stick Micro
  • Movie recording mode: MP4: 12M(1,440x1080/3ofps)
  • Uses Triluminous colors
  • WiFi compatible

QX100:

  • 1/2.3" (7.76mm) Exmor R(R) CMOS Sensor
  • Sony G 9 elements in 7 groups (including 4 aspheric elements)
  • Focus Range: iAuto:AF(W:Approx.5cm(0.16') to Infinity, T:Approx.150cm(4.92') to Infinity)
  • 10x Optical Zoom during Movie recording
  • Segment LCD display
  • Focus Modes: Single-shot AF, Touch AF
  • ISO: Auto, ISO 100-1000 level
  • White Balance: Auto, Daylight, Shade, Cloudy, Flourescent White balance 0,1,2, Incandescent
  • Aperture: ISO100-3200(iAuto), ISO100-12800(Superior Auto), ISO100-1600(Program Auto)
  • MicroSD, microSDHC, microSDXC, Memory Stick Micro
  • Movie recording mode: MP4: 12M(1,440x1080/30fps)
  • Uses Triluminous colors
  • Wifi Compatible

Both lenses are great additions to your device, and the ability to control them from your phone is awesome. We've heard a lot about both of these and now they are official. There's a gallery down below of what the lenses look like followed by another one showing how they are used in real life.
