Acer is getting the jump on IFA this year. The event technically begins September 6th, but they have already announced 3 new devices to add to their line-up. There's a new 6-inch smartphone, a tablet device, and something a little more interesting. Labeled the DA241HL, Acer unveiled a 24-inch touchscreen PC that is looking to bring Android to your family, in your home. This all-in-one PC runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and has support for multi-user accounts. It's an interesting twist on touchscreen home PCs.
The DA241HL isn't the first large screen AIO PC running Android that we've seen this year. In February, Acer announced their first entry into the all-in-one PC segment. The new PC announced this morning in Berlin has more powerful specs than the previous model. It's running on a quad-core Tegra 3 processor and 1 GB of RAM. The 24-inch screen has a 1920 x 1080p HD display and Google Play Store access, too. These specs are not top of the line by any means, but it's a step in the right direction. This is the same Tegra 3 SoC that's powering last years Nexus 7. Acer is trying to bring it to the PC market, but we're not sure it will work. Even though the specs are better than February's model, the new DA241HL is still an underpowered device.
The display on this PC can swivel from 20 degrees to 75 degrees so users can optimize their viewing angle. It has MHL support for the addition of a second display, as well as USB and HDMI slots. If you like, you can even stream your Windows 7 or Windows 8 PC or tablet to the 24-inch screen on this new Acer PC, using the built-in HDMI input.
Acer is continuing its shift away from Windows and towards Android with this release. It plans to bring the DA241HL to market in October of this year. Pricing will start €429 and go up from there. Check out the full press release below for all of the details on the DA241HL and the two other new Acer products announced this morning.
