Google is one of the best companies to work for in the US for a reason. It’s not just that they treat their employees well or do crazy things when hiring interns, but also that they love Easter eggs. No not the kind you find hidden in your yard, these Easter eggs are hidden throughout your software, and they tend to make people laugh. The practice of hiding Easter eggs throughout software has been around a long time, but Google is well known for doing such a thing, and their recent launch of the Google Play Games app is no exception. Some users on the popular news aggregation site Reddit have found that if you input the famous Konami Code into Google Play Games by swiping you’ll get the following screen:
You’ll also get the achievement in the picture up top, which means you should probably grab it right now for posterity. Yes, it’s that important. If you haven’t heard of the Konami Code before or can’t remember how to input it, just swipe Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right anywhere in the Google Play Games app. Once the “controller” popup appears, press B, A and then the Start button to unlock the “All Your Game Are Belong To Us” achievement.
The Google Play Games app is Google’s way of organizing games, getting users to expand their games library and play more with achievement unlocks. This is similar to the Game Center in iOS which was launched with iOS 4 over 3 years ago and also features achievements like were made popular with Microsoft’s Xbox 360 many moons ago. We’re not sure what took Google so long in this respect, but they’ve done it right, with full Google+ integration to make finding competition easier than other services out there.
We’ve seen Google do Easter eggs like this plenty of times too. If you go in to your system settings, scroll down to About Device and repeatedly tap the section that says Android Version, you’re bound to find something awesome. If you haven’t checked out the Google Play Games app, click on the Play Store link below and get to playing! Feel free to drop us a comment with any other Easter eggs you might have found in other Google apps as well!
