Superman Goes Mobile; Official Man of Steel Game Now Available in the Play Store

June 14, 2013 - Written By Tom Dawson

It’s been a great couple of years for comic book fans and movie nuts, with the big screen seeing heroes from all corners of the comic universe, we’ve had Green Lantern, a new Spider-Man, brilliant Batman films and of course, The Avengers. This year sees both Wolverine and Superman go head-to-head in the box office, with Man of Steel, yet another reboot of the Superman movie franchise, generating a massive amount of buzz. It’d be an understatement to say that Man of Steel is the only movie a lot of you are waiting for in 2013.

The question is, will the mobile tie-in game live up to the same sort of hype? Well, depending on your outlook there’s good news in that Gameloft aren’t responsible for this – Warner Bros are publishing with Phosphor Games doing the development. The game is now available in the Play Store, and it comes in at $4.99 which, again depending on your outlook, is a little pricey. Take a look at the trailer below to get a quick feel for the game:

You’re forgiven for thinking that you’ve played this game before, there’s no denying that it’s borrowing a lot from other titles and there’s really nothing wrong with that. Graphically, the game looks good and it seems to run at a fair pace. It’s a good idea to maybe look around and see if the game is compatible with your device though as there are a few reports of the game not working on some smartphones and tablets. If the game doesn’t work out at first then I suggest you get a refund within the first 15 minutes – there’s no telling how long bugs will take to be fixed, though we’re sure the wait won’t be unbearable – and keep an eye on the Play Store listing to see if there are updates made – which you can see by clicking the “What’s New” tab.

It’s encouraging to see Warner Bros take mobile gaming seriously, and even though the price tag might be a little steep for a mobile title I think I speak for a lot of you when I say that I’d rather pay full price for something, than $0.99 for every part of the game, am I right?
