Here we go. We've got the battle of the humongous devices. It's the brand new Xperia Z Ultra which was announced this morning going up against the Galaxy Mega 6.3 from Samsung and the Huawei Ascend Mate. All of these are 6+ inches and all released this year. We've got some stiff competition here. I certainly can't wait to see what other "phablets" make their way to market this year. We already have normal flagships hitting 5-inches. With phones hitting 6.4-inches, do we really need tablets anymore?
In the table above, you can see the Xperia Z Ultra, Ascend Mate and Galaxy Mega 6.3 and how they stack up. It's important to note that the Xperia Z Ultra has no release date, or pricing yet. The Galaxy Mega 6.3 and Ascend Mate's pricing are from Expansys' US website and those are for the unlocked versions for any GSM carrier. Sony's first "phablet" is a pretty thin one. In fact it's the thinnest big phone we've seen so far. Which that will probably change before the end of the year. But it does weigh more than the Galaxy Mega 6.3, which is more than likely all having to do with the material that the phone is made out of.
It's also important to note that only the Xperia Z Ultra is water resistant. The Galaxy Mega 6.3 and Ascend Mate are not. So please don't get them wet if you do buy either of them. The Xperia Z Ultra is a great looking device, and one that I'm really looking forward to checking out. How many of you want to check out any of these devices? Which one would you buy? Let us know your thoughts in the comments down below. My vote goes for the Xperia Z Ultra.
