Today, Blekko who is a search technology innovator, announced izik for smartphones. It's coming to both Android and iOS. They are bringing their popular categorical search experience to two of the largest smartphone platforms. izik also capitalizes on the form and image rich functionality of today's touch-screen devices, delivering search results in a highly-visual format, which is organized by category and easy to navigate with the flip of your finger.
The new izik app includes the same great touch-based features which were popular on the tablet version of this app. But it's been redesigned for smaller real estate common on most mobile phone screens. The new app also includes a new feature called "What's Nearby" which helps you discover local establishments close to you such as cafes, movie theaters, bars, restaurants, and much more. Keep in mind that What's Nearby is only on the smartphone version of the app, not the tablet version.
The CEO of Blekko, Rich Skrenta stated "We built izik to redesign the search experience for today's consumer, and so far the results and response have been fantastic," he went on to say, "Users are discovering more, typing less, and the categorical presentation of results is so intuitive and easy to users that we just completed a total overall of the user interface on Blekko.com. Now, with izik on iOS and Android, this innovative search experience is available to users wherever they are and wherever they go."
izik launched in January of this year, it's been a huge hit with tablet users in the past 5 months. It's had nearly 200,000 installs and about 70% of users are returning and spending an average of about 12 minutes in the app each time it's launched.
izik is a nice looking search app, but can it compare to Google's search app and Google Now?
